Most UK communities have certain types of flood risk and while the risk cannot be completely eliminated there are many things that can be done to manage the risk to life and property. In our communities of Kinmel Bay, Sandy Cove and Towyn we have some clearly identified areas at risk and we have experienced these recently and in the Towyn floods of 1990.

  • Events: Rhyl 5 Dec 2013 similar to flood event of Towyn 1990; high tide, strong onshore winds and low pressure combine into storm surge floods.

This website builds on the Community Flood Plan evolving through the nationwide efforts of Natural Resources Wales (NRW), local authorities and emergency services. A vital aspect of the Community Flood Plan is engagement with the communities whose safety is targeted in the plan. It is important for residents to adopt these plans and in the process we should make our thoughts known, a vehicle for this is the flood wardens or town council.

The Flood Plan process stimulates the things we should do as a community, be aware of vulnerable residents living near us, keep in touch with local friends and family, know who is home or away, keep an eye on our patch, subscribe to flood alerts and warnings and browse through these pages so the plan becomes a natural precaution.
