Looking back we see how fortunate we are to have such a well coordinated team of emergency services; police, fire and ambulance services worked with RNLI, army, air-sea rescue and welfare in the largest UK peacetime emergency evacuation where no life was lost in the flood itself.
Civil engineering contractors worked to repair the breach to sea defences and a Dunkirk like flotilla of boats and vehicles ferried residents to Bodelwyddan castle.
At that time we were taken by surprise and today there are better warnings but the issue of flood prevention remains a question particularly as climate change appears set to raise sea levels and create more unsettled weather.
In this Kinmel Bay Flood Plan website we attempt to illustrate resilience measures that can be taken; prevention measures applied and how to plan for a flood including registration with floodline and heading evacuation advice.
